MOTHER EARTH DAY
WE ARE THE SEVENTH GENERATION
On 22 April 2014, a day designated by the United Nations as International Mother Earth Day, UNM-Taos Solar Campus will be hosting a tour, reception, screening and award ceremony to honor seven eighth-grade students from the Taos Pueblo Day School who participated in the public service announcement "We Are The Seventh Generation" co-produced by UNM-Taos and Native Children's Survival in partnership with the American Indian Law Alliance and the Seventh Generation Fund.
"We are the Seventh Generation," presents the thoughts and aspirations of Indigenous children regarding the future of mother earth. Award-winning actress and Native Children’s Survival Board Member, Irene Bedard (Pocahontas, Smoke Signals, The New World, Lakota Woman) worked with the participating students on camera. The PSA premiered at an event titled, “Celebrating and Commemorating the Rights of Mother Earth for the Seventh Generation: Sharing our Vision of the Past, Present and Future Generations” at the twelfth session of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues at the United Nations Headquarters in NYC on 20 May 2013.
