Native Children's Survival celebrates historic victory for Indigenous Peoples and Mother Earth.

On August 21, 2023, Ecuadorians voted to protect a significant portion of the Yasuni, one of Mother Earth's most biodiverse rainforests, for future generations.

The referendum to protect Yasuní land, home to more animal and tree species per hectare than Europe and North America combined, prevents the extraction of 726 million barrels of oil and helps preserve its diverse wildlife, which includes jaguars, scarlet macaws, and howler monkeys, from the fossil foolish industry.

During a press conference in Quito, Juan Bay, the president of the Waorani Indigenous community, emphasized the importance of protecting the greatest biodiversity and Indigenous peoples in voluntary isolation. He also stated that they will ensure the government respects the decision of the Ecuadorean people.

As the world still heavily relies on fossil fuels and the Amazon Rainforest nears a tipping point, Ecuador's referendum comes at a critical time with record-breaking heat in July continuing into August.
