INTERNATIONAL MOTHER EARTH DAY

Walking in beauty… Defending the Rights of Mother Earth & All Our Relations

In 2009 the United Nations designated 22 April as International Mother Earth Day. On behalf of more than 500 million Indigenous Peoples in seven world regions, speaking more than 4,000 languages, the Bolivian-led resolution A/RES/63/278 was adopted.

For centuries, Indigenous Peoples have warned about what would happen if human beings continued to commit crimes against nature and violate natural law. Today's Global Crisis — climate change, deforestation, extinction, famine, and war result from the avarice and foolish actions of human beings.

While Indigenous Peoples comprise 5% of the world's population, we are responsible for 80% of its biodiversity. The full implementation of the United Nations Declaration On The Rights Of Indigenous Peoples is critical to ensuring human health, planetary and territorial health, and the well-being of all living things.

In these days of prophecy and pandemic, we, the Indigenous Peoples, walk in beauty in the footsteps of our ancestors. On this International Mother Earth Day, we encourage our sisters and brothers to join us in honoring and defending the Rights of Mother Earth and the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
