In 2009, the United Nations designated April 22nd as International Mother Earth Day. On behalf of Indigenous Peoples worldwide, the Bolivian-led resolution A/RES/63/278 was adopted.
Indigenous Peoples recognize that Mother Earth and all our relations are interconnected and respect the rights of nature, which is emphasized by this resolution, as is the need to promote harmony with nature.
The path to a safe, healthy, and sustainable future necessitates viable solutions to the climate crisis. These solutions encompass supporting the critical role Indigenous Peoples play as stewards and protectors of the natural world. Reducing fossil fuel dependency, transitioning to renewable energy and sustainable agriculture, restoring forests, protecting oceans, minimizing waste, and promoting sustainable practices are essential if we are to survive.
